Breathe

I need to remember to do this.  The last three days were great. The presentations were very well done. Thank You!  I enjoyed class and the people that surround me always amaze me.  Cohort 4 is an unbelievable group of people!  When the group in Dr. Kemp’s class ended the presentation Friday, Donna led us in a time of meditation. It helped me realize that I am forgetting to “breathe”.  Like most of you, I am working very hard to balance my life.  I knew before going into this that it would not be easy.  Now that I am doing this, I realized this is NOT going to be easy.
So, how can I apply this to the concept of Leadership?  Being the leader is demanding. The leader can be overwhelmed with the demands on their time and their energy.  Finding the balance is important to survival and effectiveness.
So I need to breathe…take time to take to relax so that I can regain my focus and energy. I am  so very glad that I am in the company of Cohort 4.

  1. Anna, you make an important point for all of us. If we lead in a state of frenzy, those around us will feel the anxiety. In this program we all have the right to feel the pressure and the responsibility to empathize with each other, but at work I want to be a calm reassurance. I usually put a email reminder out 3 or 4 times a year that says, "We have enough, we do enough, we are enough." Maybe I'll send it to the cohort as a reminder for all of us once in a while, too. I know I need the reminder myself.

  2. Breathe in, breathe out, breath in breath out. Anna, you are right. We have to take time to breathe, to relax, and to reflect on our experiences. This class has been very rewarding for all of us so far, but we have to go the extra step - apply what we are learning. Leadership is demanding and can leave me exhausted at the end of the day. How do I recharch? Two ways. Spending time with God and building relationships with those that spend time with God.

  3. I do aerobic walking, 3 miles every morning before I go to work, walking rapidly and pumping handweights. The deep breathing involved pumps my lungs and gets my blood circulating. I have had a time of Bible study before I leave the house, and being out in God's beautiful world in the early morning is a time when my mind and heart are engaged in meditation and communion with my Lord. It makes my day.
